Workbench

I have several viking shields on my work bench. I have commandeered the decals from my Revell Viking ship and am in the process of applying them to various shields. I will continue to work on this warband. I have just unbased my celts as the base job was horrific. I will rebase them on 3/4 inch washers like my Vikings and then put magnets on them. I want to make them available for skirmishing and for Impetus rules. I'll post some pics when I get more done.

Vikings WIP

Painted some vikings up the night before for a test play of Strandhogg rules for our up coming campaign. I still need to paint their scabbards and finish their shields but not a bad start. Only 32 more to go.

Saxon Church Complete

I'm calling this project done. I really need to start painting my Vikings. It has some touch ups needed but I will work that into my painting schedule. I have added a fresco to the wall above the entrance door. All the windows have stained glass mounted inside them. The big pulpit window has a nicely detailed stained glass. As always let me know how she looks.

Late Roman or Saxon Church

I was not able to complete my church today but I was able to finish the majority of the construction though. I will post finished pictures later this week. I plan on using this as a Saxon church for my Vikings to raid in good ole England. I also plan on using for Late Roman/Arthurian Campaigns in the future.

There was a lot of effort put into this as each stone on the tower was cut out individually and glued on. The tower is a solid piece of styrofoam and the main structure are from regular styrofoam.

I still need to find some acetate so I can print out my stained glass windows. I also have a fresco I need to apply. I'm just debating the best way to do it.

WIP Status

I am currently working on a Saxon Church and it is quite a bit of work putting this piece together but it is coming along well. I hope to have something to show by the end of this weekend. Then I can start to actually paint my Vikings.

I finally finished my stone work on the Church, it was the most time consuming chore ever.

Viking House

I have recently finished my first Viking house. I used a technique from one of the many miniature bloggers. I tried using cereal box cardboard to mount craft popsicle sticks but found this is too flexible. I am now building a great hall using the sticks again but mounted on corrugated cardboard. I used the teddy bear fur technique for the roof and I like how it came out. I first painted PVA glue on the fur to get it in the right shape. I then spray painted the whole thing a dark brown and followed up by dry brushing to layers of lighter brown. Let me know what you think.

Update

I've finally finished priming my Vikings and a few german soldiers are mostly done. I need to find rank & helmet decals in 28mm. I'm also adding some curtains to the back of the gladiator arena to keep the sun off of the dignitaries. Warlord Games has come out with a set of slave girls and civilians that will go nice with the arena. I will be working on the gladiators after I finish the Vikings. I also have a top secret WWII project in the works. Just need to get to the hobby store for some thick plasticard. I'll post photos when I can.

New Projects

Hey all. I haven't had much time to paint or model anything lately. I have started some huts for my vikings. I just ordered an old APC for Colonial Marines from micro-machines. I will be getting some 28mm marines from gripping beast. I will be getting some stuff from annetecoti's workshop so I can put together a FOB for the marines as well.

Viking Ship WIP

After seeing Herrodadog's excellent job on the Revell 1/50 scale ship, I decided to get one for myself. I checked some local shops but was not able to find one so I got mine from ebay. The first thing I did was to remove 24 of the shield mounts in order to reduce the crew size and free up some shields and decals. I started removing the main body of the ship from the sprues and they matched up well so I used some rubber bands and close pins to hold them together.

I primed the ship black as usual and used a medium brown for the base color and just added a couple of coats of brown ink which came out pretty well.

I liked Hil's idea of keeping the ship simple. I was not planning on doing any rigging other than a bit on the ships mast. I was not impressed with the plastic sail provided in the kit so I decided to pick up some fabric from Joanne's. I used the plastic sail to estimate the size for my fabric one and cut to fit. I then made ruled lines with a pencil and hand painted the red stripes.

I put the mast together and added some cooking string to simulate rope and hold the cross beam in place. I attached my new sail with the provided string. I also left the mast removable so I could show the difference between at sea and ashore. I will finish the ship by adding about 20 shields total to the ship that I will hand paint so I can save the shield decals for my BTD Vikings. I also have a used hair net that I will convert to a fishing net and I have finished the provided anchor and have added more cooking string/rope. I will also add a bundle of oars just for looks. To finish the projecct I will add a nice wooden base and spackled waves.

Imperial Fleet

I have finished my fleet for Spartan Games' Uncharted Seas. They were fairly simple to assemble and stayed together pretty well during paint. I also wanted to add bases to them for stability, ease of movement, and lowered amount of model handling. I want to add some heraldic eagles to the sails and a light brown wash for their finishing touches.

On the paint table

Right now I have 16 WWII 28mm Germans on the paint table along with a pack of British Colonials from the zulu wars, as well as one LOTR Nazgul from reaper. I just ordered a Viking longship and plan on ordering some BTD vikings and a few more 28mm Germans.

Gladiator Arena

After watching Starz' Spartacus Blood & Sand as well as gods of the Arena. I was inspired to create a gladiator arena based on the Capuan arena from the series. As you can see this is not an exact copy as I made the arena more linear were in the show it is more of a mish mash of buildings. I will be adding curtains to the back of the viewing platform and I need to add seats for the spectators. I will be making some minor modifications to the model as time permits. I made the interior cell door movable and am happy with that result. The whole model is based on a large piece of plexiglass and flocked with sand.

I was able to use the Arena at HeroDaDogs' place to try out 2 hour wargames Blue Sky and Red Sand Gladiator rules.

You can see some more photos on HeroDaDog's blog.
