Well I've been busy with going back to college but I have been working on some wargaming stuff. A big project, my Late Romans for Impetus & Saga and a large piece of terrain. I am also working on Death Star tiles for the X-Wing game. I will be jumping back on my Vikings once the late romans are finished. I will also have my gladiators in the que as well as some Saga Normans from ebob.

Next up is a rather simple project that took very little time but turned out well. It is a power generator for shields or remote stations etc. This is made from two Hubba Bubba gum strip packages and two bits from my bit box. I may add some decals at a later time but she is ok for now.

I have dusted off some old figs and have been painting them. I am surprised with the 8th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle that the Bretonnians have not received a new Army book since 2003. I used earthy tones for the archers along with blue and off white for them as this will be the same colors on their command flag. I am repainting and painting my army with just a couple of colors. Some units will be Blue & White, some Red & white and a few others Red & Blue. I scratch built the archer stakes with balsa strips, skewers, and plastic card to the bottom of the balsa wood to add a bit of strength. Once I get my hands on 10 metal squire archers I will make two more stake bases. I am going to attempt to build some braziers from scratch.

I haven't blogged in a while and I haven't gamed in a bit either. I have just recently finished 18 Conquest Miniatures woodland indians. I scratch built the pallisade from skewers and balsa wood. I did it in sections and learned stuff along the way. I wish I had built the gate first but oh well. It does open and close. I may add a firing step eventually but for it is good. The nice thing about the pallisade is that I can use it for ancients up to the wild west. Let me know what you all think.

I have commandeered the decals from my Revell Viking ship and am in the process of applying them to various shields. I will continue to work on this warband. I have just unbased my celts as the base job was horrific. I will rebase them on 3/4 inch washers like my Vikings and then put magnets on them. I want to make them available for skirmishing and for Impetus rules. I'll post some pics when I get more done.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-47181194834760899832011-08-09T19:39:00.002-05:002011-08-09T21:49:56.447-05:00Vikings WIPPainted some vikings up the night before for a test play of Strandhogg rules for our up coming campaign. I still need to paint their scabbards and finish their shields but not a bad start. Only 32 more to go.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-44589211008592439102011-07-31T10:24:00.000-05:002011-07-31T10:29:03.953-05:00Saxon Church CompleteI'm calling this project done. I really need to start painting my Vikings. It has some touch ups needed but I will work that into my painting schedule. I have added a fresco to the wall above the entrance door. All the windows have stained glass mounted inside them. The big pulpit window has a nicely detailed stained glass. As always let me know how she looks.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-25343103684192018452011-07-24T21:41:00.000-05:002011-07-24T21:47:53.264-05:00Late Roman or Saxon ChurchI was not able to complete my church today but I was able to finish the majority of the construction though. I will post finished pictures later this week. I plan on using this as a Saxon church for my Vikings to raid in good ole England. I also plan on using for Late Roman/Arthurian Campaigns in the future.

There was a lot of effort put into this as each stone on the tower was cut out individually and glued on. The tower is a solid piece of styrofoam and the main structure are from regular styrofoam.

I still need to find some acetate so I can print out my stained glass windows. I also have a fresco I need to apply. I'm just debating the best way to do it.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-67360592520702688242011-07-20T19:19:00.000-05:002011-07-22T21:31:43.702-05:00WIP StatusI am currently working on a Saxon Church and it is quite a bit of work putting this piece together but it is coming along well. I hope to have something to show by the end of this weekend. Then I can start to actually paint my Vikings.

I finally finished my stone work on the Church, it was the most time consuming chore ever.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-36166502054754953292011-07-08T17:35:00.000-05:002011-07-08T17:41:11.964-05:00Viking HouseI have recently finished my first Viking house. I used a technique from one of the many miniature bloggers. I tried using cereal box cardboard to mount craft popsicle sticks but found this is too flexible. I am now building a great hall using the sticks again but mounted on corrugated cardboard. I used the teddy bear fur technique for the roof and I like how it came out. I first painted PVA glue on the fur to get it in the right shape. I then spray painted the whole thing a dark brown and followed up by dry brushing to layers of lighter brown. Let me know what you think.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-23298534368108561762011-06-28T07:56:00.001-05:002011-06-28T08:01:17.918-05:00UpdateI've finally finished priming my Vikings and a few german soldiers are mostly done. I need to find rank & helmet decals in 28mm. I'm also adding some curtains to the back of the gladiator arena to keep the sun off of the dignitaries. Warlord Games has come out with a set of slave girls and civilians that will go nice with the arena. I will be working on the gladiators after I finish the Vikings. I also have a top secret WWII project in the works. Just need to get to the hobby store for some thick plasticard. I'll post photos when I can.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-47157549839162334782011-05-22T15:23:00.000-05:002011-05-22T15:35:33.811-05:00New ProjectsHey all. I haven't had much time to paint or model anything lately. I have started some huts for my vikings. I just ordered an old APC for Colonial Marines from micro-machines. I will be getting some 28mm marines from gripping beast. I will be getting some stuff from annetecoti's workshop so I can put together a FOB for the marines as well.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-52742208506691716352011-03-29T06:20:00.000-05:002011-04-13T12:37:18.699-05:00Viking Ship WIPAfter seeing Herrodadog's excellent job on the Revell 1/50 scale ship, I decided to get one for myself. I checked some local shops but was not able to find one so I got mine from ebay. The first thing I did was to remove 24 of the shield mounts in order to reduce the crew size and free up some shields and decals. I started removing the main body of the ship from the sprues and they matched up well so I used some rubber bands and close pins to hold them together.

I primed the ship black as usual and used a medium brown for the base color and just added a couple of coats of brown ink which came out pretty well.

I liked Hil's idea of keeping the ship simple. I was not planning on doing any rigging other than a bit on the ships mast. I was not impressed with the plastic sail provided in the kit so I decided to pick up some fabric from Joanne's. I used the plastic sail to estimate the size for my fabric one and cut to fit. I then made ruled lines with a pencil and hand painted the red stripes.

I put the mast together and added some cooking string to simulate rope and hold the cross beam in place. I attached my new sail with the provided string. I also left the mast removable so I could show the difference between at sea and ashore. I will finish the ship by adding about 20 shields total to the ship that I will hand paint so I can save the shield decals for my BTD Vikings. I also have a used hair net that I will convert to a fishing net and I have finished the provided anchor and have added more cooking string/rope. I will also add a bundle of oars just for looks. To finish the projecct I will add a nice wooden base and spackled waves.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-26758390354183618592011-03-24T22:47:00.000-05:002011-03-24T22:53:38.398-05:00Imperial FleetI have finished my fleet for Spartan Games' Uncharted Seas. They were fairly simple to assemble and stayed together pretty well during paint. I also wanted to add bases to them for stability, ease of movement, and lowered amount of model handling. I want to add some heraldic eagles to the sails and a light brown wash for their finishing touches.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-19826905108181038402011-03-22T22:41:00.001-05:002011-03-22T22:44:14.340-05:00On the paint tableRight now I have 16 WWII 28mm Germans on the paint table along with a pack of British Colonials from the zulu wars, as well as one LOTR Nazgul from reaper. I just ordered a Viking longship and plan on ordering some BTD vikings and a few more 28mm Germans.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-16327154450657166022011-03-20T10:59:00.000-05:002011-03-20T12:58:31.587-05:00Gladiator ArenaAfter watching Starz' Spartacus Blood & Sand as well as gods of the Arena. I was inspired to create a gladiator arena based on the Capuan arena from the series. As you can see this is not an exact copy as I made the arena more linear were in the show it is more of a mish mash of buildings. I will be adding curtains to the back of the viewing platform and I need to add seats for the spectators. I will be making some minor modifications to the model as time permits. I made the interior cell door movable and am happy with that result. The whole model is based on a large piece of plexiglass and flocked with sand.

I was able to use the Arena at HeroDaDogs' place to try out 2 hour wargames Blue Sky and Red Sand Gladiator rules.

You can see some more photos on HeroDaDog's blog.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-7915966576533594702011-03-03T10:46:00.000-06:002011-03-03T10:47:53.388-06:00UpdateHey yáll haven't updated in a while due to my camera turning to crap but now I have a new camera and access to my blog again I will update all of my projects over the next few days.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-88991016484169906822010-09-12T12:29:00.000-05:002010-09-12T13:07:07.482-05:00ImpetusI have been basing up my Celts that I had done for WAB but never got around to finishing because of the amount of figs needed. It is moving along nicely and I am almost finished. I completed four more warriors and Eight Blade Maidens. I will be rebasing all models to the 30mm lipped bases. I will also be adding snow to the Blade Maidens bases. Let me know what you all think of these models. As usual for a close up of the models go to the photobucket page.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-43243869993045763302010-02-04T21:11:00.000-06:002010-02-04T21:25:32.748-06:00I have finished my "Quarmy"It has been a long road but I have finished painting 99% of my Quar Royalists. All I have left is two heavy weapons and one arm that got left off of one model.

At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task as I had to glue all of their heads and back packs on which turned out to be a rather fidly affair. I think the high humidity also played a part in them taking a while to set and the complete lack of zip kicker also slowed me down. I also had a few casualties from them falling over and losing their heads. I mounted them all on 25mm slotta bases stolen from other models. I think they came out rather nice for my little army of proto-aardvarks.

Future plans include buying a Spanish revolution era tank and truck for support. I want put a field kitchen together on a trailer. I have plans for an observation balloon as well.

Sky view downwards on the "men"

Front view of the army.

Next up on the painting table is more Sons of Kronos for Chronopia.David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-41597564783423331682009-11-24T19:17:00.000-06:002009-11-24T19:21:55.673-06:00The Quar have arrivedWell sort of. They have arrived on my paint desk. I have quite a few to work through. I have finished 10 of them so far and am looking forward to working through the rest over the holiday season. I got one of the Royalist faction army deals earlier this summer and am just getting around to painting them as I settle in to my new apartment. The other faction is the Crusaders who look more modern with their uniforms. I am basing mine off of Napoleon's Bavarian allies Osprey book. The unit name is the 890th Fusiliers. It is hard to make out but at the bottom of their jackets is green pipping.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-76831571187939040432009-09-26T19:43:00.000-05:002009-09-26T20:02:35.030-05:00Avatar AangI finally got my Hasslefree fig which came in on back order and I painted him up as Avatar Aang. I don't know how clearly you can see the psuedo-kanji on the base but he has all the nations on his. I am putting together models that look similar to the characters on the show and have a decent amount I will be ordering from Reaper miniatures.

I plan on writing up some simple rules to go with the miniatures but don't know how long that will take me. The flash washed out the details a bit but he has the Air Nomad tattoos and is wearing a yellow sash and orange pants, with brown boots. This was an easy paint job and hope the rest will be the same. Without further a do here is everyone's favorite Avatar.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-74032693590310053792009-09-22T18:37:00.000-05:002009-09-22T18:47:55.396-05:00Cantina built for Cerro GrandeJust finished my third adobe structure, and this time it is Rosa's Cantina y Mercado (Bar & Store). I'm happy how it turned out as I tried something new. For the roof I took one part of a cardboard box and soaked it till the backing was saturated. Once it was like this I pealed on of the layers off and revealed the corrugated side. I was going to do this to both sides but found it would not work as it simply deformed the remaining corrugation so it lost it's form. I wanted to cut it into strips and layer it but I think it looks ok as is.

I also tried a slightly different technique with the wooden doors and brick work by adding a layer of brown ink on top to try and bring out the grain/bricks.

I will be making a smaller Casita to go into the Texican side of town.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233069664843815475.post-14533337374909436542009-09-17T18:38:00.000-05:002009-09-17T18:41:05.636-05:00More Capitol TroopsJust finished a few more Capitol Troops for my growing army. These are the Martian Banshees. I did them in the same scheme as they are in the Warzone Book. They were fairl easy to paint up and I needed a brake from all the Chronopia figures I had been painting.

David Kufnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11341515043893271406noreply@blogger.com0
